Unisoc Aims to Conquer India's Budget 5G Segment with the Unisoc T760

Unisoc T7610 processor launched in July 2023 has finally made its debut in India. Targeting budget 5G smartphones in India , Unisoc(formerly Spreadtrum) aims to capture some of the market share from Mediatek which currently has over 50% market share in budget smartphone category.

History of Unisoc Chipsets in India

Unisoc presence in India is not new. In years between 2020 and 2022 there were plenty of phones featuring Spreadtrum processors . Actually Spreadtrum communications had undergone a name change to Unisoc in 2022.
But most of the phones featuring these processors were feature phones , one of the reasons behind this could be company’s priority towards feature phones in India.
But soon after coming of Jio 4G in India, the consumers shifted dramatically towards smartphones and Unisoc got lost in the world of feature phones.
But with the launch of Unisoc T760 in India , they are gearing themselves up to compete in the highly competitive Indian smartphone market.

How is Unisoc planning to capture India’s budget smartphone market?

Indian smartphone market is a very price sensitive market. Even a $10 pricing difference is enough for impacting the sales of a particular smartphone.

Unisoc understanding this is trying to offer its chipsets at much lower prices comparing to its major competitor in budget segment ” Mediatek”. Also Unisoc is in talks with various OEM’s like Realme , Lava and Motorola to use Unisoc chipsets in their smartphones.

I guess Unisoc has been somehow succesful in their approach as brands like Lava and Realme have already started shipping their smartphones with Unisoc chipsets.
It would be quite interesting to see how Unisoc strategy works in the long run.
