WIREUNWIRED BRIEF

NASA is currently accepting applications for new flight directors at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. U.S. citizens can apply through Monday, October 12. Selected candidates will lead human spaceflight missions to the International Space Station, Artemis missions to the Moon, and future human missions to Mars. These leaders will manage teams of flight controllers, astronauts, and commercial and international partners during missions.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and hold a bachelor’s degree in an engineering, scientific, computer science, or mathematical field. Candidates also need substantial professional experience, which must include making time-critical decisions in high-stress, high-risk environments. Prior experience as a flight controller is not required. NASA expects to announce the new selections by the end of the year.

Successful candidates will then complete extensive training in spacecraft systems, flight control, operational leadership, and risk management.
