Berlin-based startup Restate has secured $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. Founded in 2022 by Stephen Ewan, Igal Shilman, and Till Rohrmann, Restate provides durable workflow infrastructure designed to make multi-step workflows resilient to crashes and network interruptions.

Although initially built for traditional software, the execution engine has become a vital match for managing AI agent processes, which run longer and take unpredictable paths. The startup’s architecture includes its own storage, replication, and redundancy layers, allowing the system to be fast and lightweight without relying on an external database.

Restate has recently closed multiple six- and seven-figure customer contracts and serves high-profile clients such as Replit and Fortune 500 financial companies. The fresh capital will be used to compete against industry heavyweight Temporal, hire a go-to-market team, bring on more engineers, and expand the company's office in the San Francisco Bay Area to be closer to current and prospective customers.
