OpenAI is engaging with investors to secure at least $30 billion in a pre-IPO funding round that would value the company at approximately $1.4 trillion, according to a Bloomberg report published on Tuesday. This potential fundraising effort follows a previous raise of $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation. Although that earlier round was intended as the final private raise prior to an initial public offering originally anticipated for this year, CEO Sam Altman has ruled out a 2026 public debut to prioritize AI safety.

Altman recently told Fortune that it is unacceptable to take a 10% chance of an existential risk by the end of the decade, responding to warnings from safety researchers. If completed, the new financing will act as a bridge round to the IPO. The company experienced a 70% increase in run-rate revenue since July, hitting $40 billion in August, driven by a strategic refocus on areas such as coding.

OpenAI did not respond to a request for comment from TechCrunch.
