WIREUNWIRED BRIEF

Instagram announced on Wednesday the rollout of an artificial intelligence video editing assistant for Edits, its CapCut competitor. According to Edits lead Brett Westervelt, the conversational tool delivers personalized feedback by combining an account's specific metrics—such as follows, views, video retention, likes, and shares—with comments, trending content, and audience interests to identify performance patterns and actionable insights.

Westervelt stated in a blog post that the assistant handles data analysis rather than creative work, leaving creative decisions to creators. Meta initially previewed the assistant in June at an invite-only creator event alongside plans for an Edits desktop app. Usage of the AI tool will be limited, though creators can unlock additional usage through a Meta One subscription.

The feature arrives as competitors also develop similar technology; YouTube announced a conversational video editing tool last week slated for early next year release, focusing on aiding the actual editing process compared to Meta's analytics-driven approach.
