Why Big Tech Brains Are Betting on Agent Identity Startup Mintive

Autonomous software agents are entering corporate networks faster than IT departments can watch them, creating an invisible security backlog. Into this crowded market steps Mintive, a startup tackling agent identity management, provisioning, and governance. The company recently announced a seven million dollar seed round led by Cowboy Ventures, bringing its total funding to eleven million dollars.
Additional backers include Coatue and Operator Collective, alongside high-profile angels such as Jeff Dean and Andrej Karpathy. The startup faces a saturated landscape dominated by tech giants and dozens of competing point products and startups. Yet its founders bring deep technical roots from Google Brain and early engineering at Coursera, giving them rare insight into enterprise AI infrastructure.
Mintive offers an MCP gateway for authorizing cloud access, an LLM gateway for cost control, distinct agent identities, and monitoring tools. Its platform also lets enterprises build agents for long-running tasks. Setup requires only a few clicks, hiding complexities like sandboxes and memory management behind a streamlined interface.
That simplicity has helped secure fifty enterprise customers since launching in February, including Coursera and the University of Michigan.
Our read is that this disciplined early traction matters more than flashy valuations in a sector plagued by overfunding.
Cowboy Ventures managing partner Aileen Lee praised the founding team for avoiding vanity rounds and building brick by brick while competitors chase massive checks.
Whether simple setup alone can fend off platform giants will determine if Mintive survives the crowded agent-management race.
