Ukraine Turns Russian Drones' Own Eyes Against Them

Ukrainian drone teams are turning the enemy's eyes against them using a pocket-sized gadget that intercepts live video feeds from overhead. Built by Kyiv equipment startup CODE380, the D·Vision SDR receiver weighs roughly ten ounces, coming in at less than half the weight of competing Ukrainian models.
Because many Russian reconnaissance drones transmit video over the air without any scrambling, nearby soldiers can watch the enemy feed on a screen. This allows a unit to see precisely where an incoming drone is heading and what its pilot is targeting before it strikes. The device also tunes into the specific radio channels that Russia's newer Molniya drones began using for video transmission.
According to military radio specialist Serhii Beskrestnov, most standard detectors fail to register these particular frequencies or pick them up poorly. However, our read is that relying on unencrypted analog video is a dangerous vulnerability for any military force, yet it remains a temporary window of opportunity. That tactical advantage will inevitably shrink as the electronic warfare landscape evolves.
Beskrestnov has already warned troops that putting too much blind trust in such detectors could prove fatal on the battlefield.
Furthermore, the threat profile is shifting rapidly as some Molniya models adopt AI-guidance chips that emit no signals at all, rendering visual receivers useless.
If digital feeds eventually replace the analog transmissions these gadgets rely on, the skies will go dark for pocket-sized interceptors, forcing defenders to chase a whole new generation of ghost hardware.
