A startup named Every Electric runs a free program in New York City that loans residential batteries to households so they can power window air conditioners during peak demand periods. Founded in 2023 by Andrew Wang and Richard May as Standard Potential Co., the company rebranded in 2026. Every Electric loans Bluetti Elite 200 V2 lithium iron phosphate batteries to apartment renters and other residents in exchange for a temporary, refundable deposit that was recently reduced from $50 to $30 per battery.
Customers can also buy the units for $650 each. The system connects to home Wi-Fi and works with Con Edison’s Smart Usage Rewards demand response program, letting residents earn about $150 each year per air conditioner. The startup deployed 2,000 batteries across about 1,000 households during the summer of 2026, totaling four megawatt-hours of energy storage.
This marked an increase from a 2025 test run of 100 batteries across 65 households. After drawing a wait list for more than 15,000 batteries, Every Electric aims to deploy more than 10,000 batteries in 2027 and is exploring expansion into new utility markets.
