Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI bots

Reddit announced Wednesday that it will end support for RSS feeds on November 13, stating the format has become a surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. The company also announced a March 2027 shutdown date for its public API access, which will affect tools like researchers, social listening products, and AI assistants.

For moderators who utilized RSS channels for alerts, Reddit recommends transitioning to the Discord Relay Devvit app prior to the November 13 cutoff, though the company stated there is no replacement for RSS feeds used outside of moderator communities. Additionally, Reddit is adding safeguards to Old Reddit by limiting access to logged-in moderators and users active within the last 90 days, citing abusive scraping and automated traffic.

Furthermore, developers building approved third-party apps and bots must register with the company before January 12, 2027, to prevent API access removal. These updates were among several shared by the company on Wednesday alongside progress updates on its Rules Hub and auto-mod changes.
