NASA Science, Cargo Launch on 35th SpaceX Resupply Mission to Station
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched Tuesday carrying more than 6,300 pounds of cargo and scientific hardware to the International Space Station on NASA's 35th commercial resupply mission. The liftoff occurred at 6:33 a.m.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched Tuesday carrying more than 6,300 pounds of cargo and scientific hardware to the International Space Station on NASA's 35th commercial resupply mission. The liftoff occurred at 6:33 a.m. EDT from Space Launch Complex 40 in Florida. The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft is scheduled to dock autonomously Thursday at 11 a.m. to the Harmony module's space-facing port.
The delivery includes the final pair of Roll-Out Solar Arrays, which will complete the station's power upgrade. Astronauts will install these arrays during spacewalks this fall to boost electricity for research, operations, and the station's eventual deorbit. Dragon is also carrying experiments to manufacture artificial retinas, test 3D heart tissue models, study microgravity glass formation, and analyze brain organoids for neurodegenerative diseases.
The spacecraft will remain at the station until mid-November before returning to Earth with research samples.
