Google Labs has launched a new browser-based platform that lets users build games using simple text descriptions. The experimental tool aims to make game development accessible to people without traditional coding, design, or illustration skills. Named Playground, the platform allows creators to pick a genre like trivia or racing, choose between 2D or 3D formats, and select single-player or multiplayer modes.
Users can specify rules and visuals, or upload their own images for the software to convert into game assets. Completed projects run on mobile devices and computers, and can be kept private, shared via link, or published to a public gallery. The launch places Google in a growing market of natural-language game tools, following Roblox’s introduction of a similar prompt-based build feature in July.
Playground is initially open to users aged 18 and older in the U.S. Playing catalog games is free, while game generation uses a weekly token system with higher limits for Google One subscribers. Google stated it plans to add Unity Spark integration in a future update to provide professional-level 3D mechanics.
The company has not yet detailed when the platform will expand to additional countries.
