WIREUNWIRED BRIEF

We spend hours scrolling through standalone applications just to pick a place for dinner. Zest wants to kill that app fatigue by moving its restaurant discovery engine entirely inside a text message thread. Founder and CEO Mario Gomez-Hall argues that the agent has become the product itself. The startup launched last year with backing from Alexis Ohanian and Steve Jang.

It sets itself apart by linking to users credit cards via Plaid to track actual dining history, avoiding the need for endless conversational onboarding. Our read is that bypassing the chatbot interview phase gives Zest a massive head start over general assistants that rely on guesses. The new concierge handles group chats by blending multiple dining histories, running votes, and booking tables through services like OpenTable and Resy without requiring anyone to download an interface.

Gomez-Hall notes that booking and ordering form the initial revenue lines. That transactional bridge suggests a future where conversational AI quietly captures the entire path from craving to reservation.
