Uber and Chinese autonomous vehicle maker Pony.ai plan to launch a robotaxi service in London, marking a major expansion of their driverless car partnership in Europe. The companies announced on Thursday that they will begin testing Pony.ai’s Gen-7 robotaxis in London in the coming weeks.
The move follows an earlier partnership launched in May 2025 and an August 2026 robotaxi rollout in Zagreb, Croatia, involving a third partner, Verne. In those deployments, Pony.ai supplies the autonomous driving system and vehicles, while Uber provides network access. The companies have not yet stated who will own and operate the London fleet.
The London project is part of Uber’s broader push into autonomous vehicles through deals with more than 30 companies. Uber expects to offer driverless trips in up to 15 global cities by the end of 2026. Pony.ai is also expanding its global footprint, having already launched robotaxi services in four Chinese cities alongside markets in the Middle East.
Pony.ai will not be Uber's sole partner in London.
Uber has also invested in British self-driving startup Wayve, contributing to a $1.2 billion funding round in February 2026, with plans to launch a separate robotaxi service in the city.
