On Thursday, hearing technology startup Legato launched its flagship artificial intelligence hearing glasses, called Legato Frames. Founded in 2024 by Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine, the company designed the glasses for adults with up to moderate hearing loss. The product starts at $999 and aims to improve hearing care accessibility by reducing cost, comfort issues, and social stigma.

The frames feature patented hearing-assistance technology built into the eyewear arms. Instead of traditional directional microphones, the artificial intelligence system separates voices from background noise and boosts speech while cutting unwanted sounds. The open-ear device uses a dual-speaker system to direct audio to the wearer while canceling 99% of escaping sound a few inches away.

Processing occurs entirely on the glasses, which lack cameras and recording features. The frames weigh 34 grams with lenses, provide 10 to 12 hours of battery life, support prescription lenses, and allow Bluetooth streaming. Buyers can choose from three styles. Customers can purchase the frames on the startup website or through select United States eye care providers, and vision insurance may cover them.
