WIREUNWIRED BRIEF

Google is launching a unified agent within its Gemini system designed to complete tasks on behalf of users from a single interface. The announcement was made on Thursday at a Google Cloud event. According to CEO Sundar Pichai, Gemini serves over one billion monthly active users, and nearly ninety percent of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise.

Because of this corporate adoption, Google will roll out the new tool to businesses first to address challenges regarding security, scale, and performance. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated that users can assign objectives rather than simple instructions, allowing the agent to plan work, connect to internal systems, and use custom tools.

The system automatically selects the best model for a task, but users can also choose third-party models starting with Anthropic's Claude. The agent links with workplace tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, and Jira, and operates with its own Workspace account, email address, and audit trail. Early enterprise testers include On, Shopify, and PayPal.

Google plans to expand the model selection to include open-source and private models in the future, while bringing the agent to consumers later.
