Mach9 Robotics has dropped “Robotics” from its name and secured $34 million in a Series A funding round. Co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, the financing will help the startup scale its operations and improve its artificial intelligence software.
Co-founded by Alex Baikovitz in 2021, the company initially built hardware for visual inspections by civil engineers. Baikovitz stated that customer feedback revealed hardware was not the main bottleneck. Instead, users struggled to convert massive amounts of data from laser scanners into usable surveys. The company pivoted to developing AI-powered computer-aided design, or CAD, software.
The private beta version has attracted nearly 100 customers and been used on over 2,500 projects. Mach9 trained its own in-house AI models to achieve centimeter-accurate geometry, tracing features like curbs and pavement striping. Baikovitz explained that the system generates a first draft of a plan, which licensed professionals then refine and verify.
According to Mach9, legacy software can take about a week per mile to complete manually. The startup claims its automated approach is 10 times faster and lowers costs. Additional funding came from Prudence and Quiet Capital.
