Atlassian visited our college to hire Summer Interns. The process consisted of three rounds.
Round 1: HackerRank Online Test: This was a DSA-based online coding challenge of 90 minutes, consisting of 3 questions. Popular and most frequently asked topics include Binary Search, Greedy or Math based problems, Graphs or DP (in case its a hard problem).
Only those who solved all 3 out of 3 questions were selected.

Round 2: Technical Interview: This round was of 60 minutes. The intervierwer introduced himself first, and asked for my introduction as well. He presented the question and then I was asked to share my screen and open my favourite IDE. One of the best parts about Atlassian Interviews is that you’re allowed to use IDE of your own choice and as well as use Google for any syntax-related help if needed.
I can’t reveal the exact question but it was kind of an open-ended question with no exact solution.
I shared a Brute Force approach first, and later an optimised algorithm with which he seemed to be satisfied. I coded up the solution and also explained the time and space complexities.
In the end, he asked if I had any questions. We had a little chit chat about the type of work at Atlassian and the interview ended.
Round 3: Management and Values Interview: This Round is the main distinguishing factor in case of Atlassian. In moast of the companies, this round is just for casual talk and most of the candidates pass through succesfully. But, that’s not the case with Atlassian. They take their values and culture seriously. The interviewer was and Engineering Manager and asked me a lot of situation-based questions regarding my project, tech-stack used and also my team-work handling skills, such as
- What did you do when you had a conflict with your teammate?
- Have you ever missed a deadline? How did you handle the situation?
For this interview, I would suggest to be open-minded and be ready with scenarios from the past as examples tomprove your point. The round lasted for 45 minutes, and in the evening T&P sent us the list of finally selected students and fortunatley my name was there 🙂
